Asian Handicap Explained

Introduction:

Asian Handicap betting, as the name implies originates from Asia by bookies who offer a better chance of
winning than conventional fixed odd betting. The popularity of this form of betting which has started in Asia
has spread to the West, especially in the UK, with many online bookmakers catering for this type of betting.

Asian Handicaps Vs Fixed Odds betting

Asian Handicap Betting eliminates the possibility of a draw (X) bet vs Fixed Odds Betting 1 X 2. The
underdog team will get a handicap from the bookies to balance the odds so that is an equal probability for
each team to win the game. There will be only two outcomes for the bet, "home win" or "away win".
"Handicap" means that the underdog will receive a virtual head start, effectively leading the game with ¼
goal, ½ goal, ¾ goal, 1 goal, 1 ¼ goal, etc. There are perhaps some confusing terminology, for instance
half-handicap (1/2 goal), and quarter handicap (1/4 goal). It will be explained thoroughly in this article.

Advantages of Asian Handicap:

The DRAW (X) bet is eliminated and therefore increasing your main winning chance from 33.3% to 50% in
a single game.

Depending on the handicap offered by the bookmakers, you can win your bet even if the team you bet on
don't win the match.

You can bet on a team you believe will lose the match, but because of the handicap offered for the
favorites is more than 1 goal, you can still win your bet. Typical here is when the favourite team wins the
game with only one goal.

If you place parlay, combo or multiple bets (accumulator), the number of possible outcomes is much less
than in fixed odds (home/draw/away bets. e.g a treble bet, where all 3 selections must be correct). The
number of outcomes is 2 x 2 x 2 = 8 for Asian handicap parlay/combo set. But with fixed odds betting the
number of outcomes is 3 x 3 x 3 = 27.

Advantages of Fixed Odds

A very high number of bookmakers to choose from. But now almost all Bookmakers are offering Fixed
Odds betting because of the advantage of the house.

Bankers. It is possible to bet on "sure" games, which might be suitable for an accumulator but this is not
advisable because the pay out price could be as low as 1.15 for $1 bet.

Bigger odds on outsiders (underdogs). Perhaps this is the only reason to bet on X and underdog if you
think the favorites will not win the match.

Asian Handicap Explained
The following table shows how Asian Handicaps works. It may seem complicated at first look, but it is
actually very simple to understand.

-sign denotes favorites (giving hadicap) and + sign denotes underdog (receiving handicap):

Example 1:

Tenerife -1/4 pay 2.00 vs Getafe +1/4 pay 1.85

This means Tenerife is giving 1/4 goal hadicap to Getafe and therefore Getafe is getting 1/4 goal
advantage before match starts. This also means that Getafe is at the winning start of winning 1/2 your
bets if Tenerife not able to win this match.

1/4 handicap also reads as you are placing in between level (0) handicap and 1/2 handicap. If you wager
$10 on Tenerife, technically, you are spliting half your total wager $5 on level (0) handicap and $5 on
Tenerife (-1/2) handicap.

Bet on Tenerife:

If Tenerife wins the match, you will win your stake multiply by 2.00.
If the match is draw, You will lose 1/2 your bet and 1/2 is refunded. If Getafe wins the match, you lose all
your bets.

Bet on Getafe:

If Tenerife wins the match, you lose all your bets.
If the match is draw, you win 1/2 your bet multiply by 1.85. If Getafe wins the match, You win  your bet
multiply by 1.85

Example 2:

AC Milan -1/2 pay 2.00 vs Juventus +1/2 pay 1.85

This means AC Milan is giving 1/2 goal handicap to Juventus and therefore Juventus is getting 1/2 goal
advantage before match starts. This also means that Juventus is at the winning start if AC Milan not able
to win this match.

Bet on AC Milan:

If AC Milan win the match, you will win your stake multiply by 2.00. Otherwise you lose your bet.

Bet on Juventus:

If the match ends in a draw of Juventus win, you will win your stake multiply by 1.85

Example 3:

Montpellier -3/4 pay 2.00 vs Toulouse +3/4 pay 1.85

This means Montpellier is giving 3/4 goal handicap to Toulouse and therefore Toulouse is getting 3/4 goal
advantage before match starts. This also means that Toulouse is at the winning start if Montpellier not
able to win this match.

3/4 handicap also reads as you are placing in between 1/2 handicap and 1 handicap.  If you wager $10 on
Montpellier -3/4, technically you are placing $5 on Montpellier (-1/2) and $5 on Montpellier (-1) handicap.

Bet on Montpellier:

If Montpellier win the match by 1 (one) goal, you will win 1/2 your stake multiply by 2.00. The other 1/2 of
your stake is refunded.

If Montpellier win the match by more than 1 goal, you will win the full stake multiply by 2.00.

Bet on Toulouse:

If Montpellier win the match by 1 (one) goal, you will lose 1/2 your stake and the other 1/2 is refunded. If
Montpellier win the match by more than 1 (goal), you will lose your full bet.

If the match is draw, you win your stake multiply by 1.85. If Toulouse wins the match, you also wins your
stake multiply by 1.85.
